You Have Options
Part of farming involves making loan payments on time and following regulations. Producers, creditors and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) all have an interest in seeing that these obligations are met. It makes sense, then, to have a method of working together when matters appear out of step. That method is mediation.
In mediation, the participants to a dispute seek solutions that work for all concerned. A trained neutral facilitator builds trust, aids communication between the participants and keeps the focus on the issues. The participants make all the decisions.
With mediaton available, a USDA notice or letter can lead the way to collaboration. A hearing can be held if necessary, but all involved may be surprised at what they can accomplish on their own.
